Article by Zhao Renhui, Kindergarten leader of Damanbie Kindergarten

Since the implementation of the Core Teacher Empowerment Project for Tengchong’s Rural Kindergartens in Yunnan Province, the kindergarten in Damanbie Village has undergone great changes. The kindergarten has received a variety of educational corner materials, including educational toys, building blocks and role-playing props. At the same time, teachers have made significant progress in promoting children's all-round development by using corner games, promoting children's creativity, imagination and cooperation ability. With the support and help of Zhao Yanping, the core teacher of the central primary kindergarten, Li Xiaoying and Yang Rongqiu, two teachers of our kindergarten, have improved their abilities in the teaching design, activity organization, observation and evaluation of children in the educational corner game activities through regular teacher group activities, field teaching supervision and online training.

The lack of corner play used to be a headache for Li Xiaoying and Yang Rongqiu. However, with the support of the project, a lot of indoor play materials have been added to the kindergarten class, and the indoor play designs have also been enriched. With the support of the project, teachers also often get new inspiration and create unexpected surprises!

In a teacher group activity, two teachers learned that some teachers in other preschool classes mobilized children's parents to make some outdoor play aids, and children's outdoor activities were enriched.

Self-made play aids are using discarded materials or local existing materials, such as steel pipes, tires, wood and other raw materials, coupled with graffiti painting, and can become the most favorite toys of rural children. And mobilizing parents to participate in it can allow parents to participate in the improvement of kindergartens building a play world for children.

Inspired by this, the two teachers agree that: "There is also a large outdoor space outside the kindergarten of Damanbie Village, we can also do some new toys and activities!" As soon as it was done, the two teachers and project staff Yang Chunbo investigated the specific situation of outdoor play aids activities, and then began to plan their own outdoor play aids activities in Damanbie Village.

With the support of the project, the two teachers began to mobilize the resources that could be used in the village: the parents of the children in the early childhood class began to collect some idle materials at home; the primary school provided some discarded steel pipes and other materials, and HPP also supported the purchase of some materials needed to make play aids.

After everything was ready, the two teachers contacted parents, and everyone joined in making outdoor play aids! Despite the scorching sun, the teachers and parents were still enthusiastic, digging and transporting sand...... in the kindergarten's open space everyone is full of enthusiasm, just so the children can have more play opportunities and a happier smile!

After two weeks of hard work, a lot of new toys appeared in the open space of the kindergarten in Damanbie Village: plum blossom piles, swinging bridges, climbing frames... Seeing the new toys, the children liked it very much, and lined up to try them out one by one, with a happy smile on their faces.

Through these outdoor toys, the teacher can organize children to carry out different games. These activities are of great help to develop children's balance, climbing, running, jumping, team work and so on.

Project manager Yang Chunbo said, "I am very happy to see that the two teachers in Damanbie Village can be innovative, and their abilities have been improved so quickly under the inspiration of the core teachers. They can design and make their own innovative games and teaching aids, and design more and better games and activities for children, so that rural children can better develop." "It is a sustainable and good cycle for core teachers to drive the development of other rural teachers."
