Zhao Wei is a middle school teacher and a climate action volunteer.

She said: it is a wonderful fate to be able to become a volunteer. 

After her children went to school, Zhao Wei had more free time and began to look for public welfare organizations to participate in some volunteer activities as her personal hobby. This was the beginning of her relationship with Green Kunming.

During the period, Zhao Wei has participated in the Dianchi garbage clean up public welfare action, other environmental protection activities and climate science video dubbing, she has done her best to participate in the response to climate change and environmental protection, and also experienced many things that make her most unforgettable and deepest feelings.

Zhao Wei recalled that in a public welfare activity of garbage cleaning in Dianchi Lake, they not only had to pick up the garbage on the shore, but also paddled to salvage the garbage floating on the water surface of the shore.

It impressed her. Because the lake is relatively large, but everyone did not shrink back, especially from families with children struggling to clean up the garbage in the water, one could hear faintly the children's young and enthusiastic and firm voices: there is garbage here, there is still more, I’m coming!... . This scene deeply touched Zhao Wei, in order to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development, many people around her are making a quiet move. 

Zhao Wei has been involved in the translation of more than 20 works, each of which she strove to do her best. No matter the details of the organization and planning, or the careful and accurate translation and the practical efforts of dubbing, she has been encouraged to present vivid and simple climate science knowledge to the public through video dubbing as much as possible.

Through volunteering, Zhao Wei not only met many like-minded public welfare partners, but also gathered together to work together and learn from each other. At the same time, Zhao Wei's awareness of climate change and environmental protection has also strengthened. In daily life, she does not waste food, turn off lights and electricity, save water, reduce the use of disposable goods, green travel, etc. She practices low-carbon behavior in daily life, and actively participates in coping with climate change and protecting the environment. 

Addressing climate change remains a long and arduous task. This is not just a matter for Zhao Wei, it is the common mission of all mankind and the whole world. It is a long and arduous undertaking to change public attitudes and behaviors through education and publicity by participating in the translation of popular science videos. But Zhao Wei herself said: I don't think I will give up my efforts and will keep going.

"A man's value lies in what he can do for others." This is the voluntary concept that Zhao Wei has always adhered to. As she improves herself, she influences and changes others.

A single spark can start a prairie fire. It is precisely the participation of many "Zhao Wei teachers" that helps our "climate action".

The Climate Change Science Popularization Action Project is funded by the Misur Foundation for Social Development in Germany and implemented by Green Kunming. The project period is from July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2022. The "Climate Change Science Popularization Action" project aims to translate and introduce excellent climate science popularization works, establish a science popularization platform, and promote the process of climate science popularization. To raise awareness of climate change among students and the general public so that they have access to good educational programmes. Create a climate knowledge database for teachers and others to make climate science accessible to the public.
