School Profile:

Southwest Forestry University is the only independently set up forestry undergraduate university in western my country, focusing on forestry disciplines, featuring ecological environment disciplines, and coordinated development of science, engineering, agriculture, literature, law, art and other disciplines. It is a national outstanding agricultural and forestry talent. Education training plan, outstanding engineer education and training plan colleges and universities, and support institutions for the basic capacity building project of colleges and universities in the central and western regions.

The school started from the Forestry Department of Yunnan University in 1938, and went through Kunming Agriculture and Forestry College, Yunnan Forestry College, Yunnan Forestry College, Southwest Forestry College, and Southwest Forestry University. Established independently in 1978, it was originally a college directly under the Ministry of Forestry. In 1983, it was renamed Southwest Forestry College, which is one of the six regional forestry colleges and universities directly under the former Ministry of Forestry. "Provincially managed" colleges and universities, changed its name to Southwest Forestry University in 2010.

The school now has 23 teaching units including the School of Forestry (Asia Pacific Forestry School), the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Horticulture, the School of Life Sciences, the School of Ecology and Environment, the School of Civil Engineering, and the School of Biodiversity Conservation. The school currently has 22,384 full-time undergraduate students, 2,033 postgraduate students and 85 doctoral students. There are 1,211 faculty members, 207 special posts, and 257 non-staff staff.

The school is the science popularization education base of Yunnan Province, the ecological civilization education base of Yunnan Province, the national popular science education base for wildlife protection, and the public education base of the National Plateau Wetland Research Center. The school has successively won a number of honorary titles such as the National Greening Advanced Collective, the National Greening Model Unit, the National May 4th Red Flag Youth League Committee, and the Yunnan Civilized School.

The school adheres to the leadership of the party's political construction, implements the fundamental task of building morality and cultivating people, unswervingly takes the road of connotative development and characteristic development with quality improvement as the core, fully promotes the construction of "double first-class", and strives to build the school into A high-level university with significant advantages in the west, distinctive features in China, and an important influence in South Asia and Southeast Asia, it will make greater contributions to Yunnan's striving to be the vanguard of the national ecological civilization construction, building China's most beautiful province, and achieving high-quality leap-forward development.
