The Hans Christian Andersen Teacher Award is the first international teacher folk honor award in the world, and also a teacher award with the color of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales and the beautiful elements of Denmark.  Initiated by the Hans Christian Andersen International Preschool Teachers College, its founders include Mr. Benny Nybo, the founder of the Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award.

More than 100 years ago, Hans Christian Andersen, known as the "Sun of children's literature in the world", became a household name with his fairy tales.

In 2021, 11 educators were awarded the first Hans Christian Andersen Teacher Award -ATA for their dedicated work in early childhood education.

Michael is the co-founder of ‘Preschools of the Future-POF’, a rural early childhood education brand project of China's Good Public Welfare Platform. He is also a promoter of the "One village, One preschool" policy in Yunnan Province. Under his leadership, the project has helped over 30,000 poor rural children in remote mountain areas to go to kindergarten.  At the same time, he is one of the promoters of the "1+M+N" policy in Liangshan Prefecture. The ‘Total Control of the Epidemic’ program has supported more than 2.5 million local farmers to prevent malaria and 1 million farmers to prevent HIV/AIDS.  In addition, HPP’s rural development projects have helped more than 10,000 rural households lift themselves out of poverty.

The preschool program founded by Michael Hermann in rural Yunnan is a historic exploration and innovation of rural preschool education. He creatively solved the problems of rural preschool education, such as location, teachers, management, teaching materials and cooperation mechanism.

They set up kindergarten classes at the doorsteps of villagers' homes, using unused school buildings, activity rooms or cultural rooms in villages.  Mobilizing young people from rural areas with a junior high school diploma or above to be trained as teachers;  setting up a parent committee to participate in the decision-making of early childhood education related affairs;  after more than ten years of practice, it has formed a set of tools and materials for rural preschool class management and teaching.  A multi-department linkage mechanism has been established, including family committees, village committees, schools, education bureau and poverty relief offices.

Through this system, children in remote mountainous areas, in ethnic minority areas have improved their social cognition, cross-cultural communication, language expression, body coordination, etc, - narrowing the gap to city children. This has undoubtedly made an outstanding contribution to supporting the long-term and sustainable development of rural areas, but even more important is to help the parents and the community to increase education awareness through participation in the rural education management. The POF program has laid a solid foundation for the national education system, not just education, but social equity and progress.
