This case story comes from Long Ling preschool of the future project, Banli Shu rural community site, and it is supported by China Merchants Charitable Foundation. Before, Banli Shu village preschool was using an abandoned building which was built in 1996. The project did school renovations which greatly relieved the parents and provided a better study environment for the kids.

The international Children’s Day just passed, I paid a regular visit to one of our preschool sites in Banli Shu village where I was invited to join the parents meeting. When the meeting was about to come to an end, one parent suddenly spoke out, “Dear all, may I say something?”

Everyone quietly listened to him, he talked with emotion. He thanked China Merchants Charitable Foundation and Humana People to People

China for supporting the operation of preschools of the future in rural villages. He also thanked the unknown people who had made their generous donations. He said, “It is due to the group activities held by the preschool, such as the Children’s Day, that we are able to celebrate the special occasion with our children, we even feel like having the spring festival together! This has brought lots of happiness to the village, and provides opportunities for us to discuss the village’s latest issues. The setup of parents committee is showing more and more impact, which makes the villagers more united.”

The Parent also said, “Ever since my kid studied in the preschool, she has changed. Now she is willing to help family members. When I come home after work, she prepares water for me to drink and reminds me to wash my hands before having meals.” I couldn’t help the tears running from my eyes but deep in my heart I was so delighted. I really appreciate the teacher’s care and mentoring to the kids in the preschool. He held his daughter closely for several seconds, then continued saying, “If there was no preschool in the village, she might be sitting alone at home crying, or we would have to stay with her at home putting off our farm work.”

The rest of the parents also started talking about the changes in their kids. Upon hearing this, the teacher smiled with great joy. The teacher said, she felt great value of her job. Us as Project staff felt the same way as well. When seeing the progress of the kids, we all felt the warmth in our hearts, like the appearance of a rainbow in life which brings hope.
